Osher LLI at 91社区 Announces Summer Course Schedule

The at听91社区 in Jupiter has announced its course offerings for the summer semester, which begins Tuesday, May 7.

Taught by 91社区 professors and distinguished guest lecturers, course offerings include such varied subjects as foreign policy, political science, film, music, art history and literature. The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute was established to provide adults of all ages the opportunity to enrich their lives through non-credit, university-level courses with no homework or tests.

Summer one-time lectures and courses take place in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute complex at 91社区鈥檚 John D. MacArthur Campus, 5353 Parkside Dr., in Jupiter, and include:

  • On Friday, May 10 at 10 a.m., 鈥淎 Morning of Humor with Frank Cerabino,鈥 presented by Frank Cerabino, a columnist for听ThePalm Beach Post. This one-time presentation will examine some of Cerabino鈥檚 favorite columns while taking the audience behind the scenes for a look at his search and process for exploring the funny side of life.
  • On Wednesday, May 22 at 3 p.m., 鈥淭he House of Blue Leaves,鈥 presented by Gary Cadwallader, the director of education and community engagement for Dramaworks. This one-time lecture will probe the play鈥檚 big ideas and examines the characters, themes, social relevance and viewpoints expressed by the playwright.
  • On Thursday, May 23 at 10:30 a.m., 鈥淢acbeth Reimagined,鈥 taught by Margery Marcus, Ed.D., an award-winning English professor. This one-time lecture examines the history and reimagining of the play by writers who see in 鈥淢acBeth鈥 a relevant cautionary tale.
  • On Monday, June 3 at 1 p.m., 鈥淲ater Lilies of Monet: The Magic of Water and Light,鈥 presented by National Theatre Live. This documentary film will examine the masterpieces of Claude Monet. The film includes an in-depth, exclusive tour led by Monet scholars of the museums that house the largest collections of the artist鈥檚 lily paintings.
  • On Tuesdays, May 7 through June 25, at 1:30 p.m., 鈥淓ight Wise International Films,鈥 presented by Katie Muldoon, an author and award-winning instructor. This eight-week film course will examine the characters in each film, and how they react when faced with tough choices.
  • On Wednesdays, May 15 through June 19, at 1 p.m., 鈥淚nspired Encounters with Art II,鈥 presented by Terryl Lawrence, Ed.D., a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellow. This six-week course will discuss the biographies and imagery of several artists, including Pierre Bonnard, Richard Avedon and Fredrick Law Olmstead.
  • On Thursdays, May 16 through June 20, at 1p.m., 鈥淭he Sense of the Ridiculous in Film: Six Excursions into Hilarity鈥 taught by Benito Rakower, Ed.D., a graduate of Harvard University and a professor of English. This six-week course will trace the progression of six films that reveal how comedy is a sublime art.
