91社区 has announced the Lifelong Learning Society Jupiter course offerings for the fall semester, which begins Monday, Oct. 10.
91社区 has announced the Lifelong Learning Society Jupiter course offerings for the fall semester, which begins Monday, Oct. 10.
Taught by 91社区 professors and distinguished guest lecturers, course offerings include such varied subjects as foreign policy, political science, film, music, art history and literature. The Lifelong Learning Society was established to provide adults of all ages the opportunity to enrich their lives through non-credit, university-level courses with no homework or tests.
Fall one-time lectures and courses take place in the Lifelong Learning Society complex at 91社区鈥檚 John D. MacArthur Campus, 5353 Parkside Dr., in Jupiter, and include:
- 鈥淪ounds Like a Winner: What Animal Voices Teach Us About Human Communication and Politics,鈥 taught by Rindy Anderson Ph.D., an assistant professor of聽 biological sciences at 91社区, and Casey Klofstad, Ph.D,聽 an associate professor of political science at the University of Miami. This one-time lecture will highlight several studies on vocal communication systems in animals, as well as the role that voice qualities such as voice pitch play in elections.
- 鈥淧residential Election Primer, Inside the 2016 Race: Polls, Parties and Politics,鈥 taught by Kevin Wagner, Ph.D., an associate professor of political science and the director of graduate studies at 91社区. This one-time lecture will examine survey results, media clips and analysis of the latest happenings of the U.S. presidential election.
- 鈥淭he Songs of The Eagles,鈥 performed by Rod MacDonald & The Humdingers. This one-time performance will provide a low-decibel tour through the lives, music and genius of these artists, as told in their songs.
- 聽鈥淯.S. National Security and the War on Extremism,鈥 taught by Robert Rabil, Ph.D., a professor of political science at 91社区. This course will analyze a number of conflicting security issues within the context of their local and international dimensions, seeking to shed light on important matters often misconceived in foreign diplomacy.
- 鈥淒ialogue Among Religions,鈥 taught by Paul Mojzes, Ph.D., a professor emeritus of religious studies at Rosemont College. This course will examine interreligious dialogue and how it has improved relationships between differing religions.
- 鈥淭he Literature of Cuban Writer Alejo Carpentier,鈥 taught by Betsaida Casanova, a Ph.D. candidate in comparative studies at 91社区. This course will examine the life and writings of Alejo Carpentier, one of the most relevant Cuban and Latin-American writers of the 20th century.
