91社区鈥檚 A.D. Henderson University School will host local middle school and high school teams in a regional SeaPerch competition on Saturday, April 2, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the A.D. Henderson University School pool, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. 91社区鈥檚 Marine Robotics Club and Human Powered Submarine Club organized the event.
Each team of students has built an underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV), which they must navigate through an obstacle course consisting of five rings. This is followed by a 鈥淔inesse鈥 Challenge, in which ROV鈥檚 must perform a series of delicate tasks remotely. Teams also will present a poster presentation to a panel of judges, which will include 91社区 High School students and volunteers from local industry partners.
The top middle school team and top high school team will qualify to compete in the National SeaPerch Challenge at Louisiana State University in May. The top teams will also receive trophies designed and fabricated by 91社区 High School students.
SeaPerch is a national program that provides students with the opportunity to learn about robotics, engineering, science, and mathematics. While building an ROV, students learn about problem solving and teamwork, and are exposed to careers in naval architecture and marine engineering.
